Last night I recorded an unboxing video of the HP Dragon that I will be giving away (as part of the 31 Days of the Dragon), I should have the video up in a couple of days so in the mean time I thought I would post my first
thoughts. The first thing you will notice is the size of the unit, having a 20 inch tilt screen makes this not a very mobile laptop in fact it is not really a laptop more of a stylish desktop replacement. This is the kind of device you could have to replace a desktop and maybe a TV as well, the screen is beautiful, clear and bright running at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 making this a full 1080p screen. Having a built in Blu-ray drive means this will be great for watching movies on. The other thing I noticed was the great speakers, loud but not distorting. I also noticed that there are speaker ports for surround sound too. The spec of the device is impressive:
- Intel Core 2 Extreme X900 @ 2.80 GHz
- 4GB RAM
- 64bit Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
- Wifi
- Bluetooth
- Blu-ray drive with Lightscribe
- NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS
- TV Tuner
- Media Center Enabled Remote
- Webcam
- Dual Microphone array
The case also has beautiful finish too, much like some of the other HP Pavilion range with great detail on it. I have yet to test the full range of the battery but Windows estimates 2 hours 11 minutes on a full change but I can't see this getting much use of the battery. So far I haven't had chance to look at the installed software yet.
This makes a great Media Center machine and probably the best speced machine I have ever used, it's no ultra-portable but it's a fantastic home
entertainment PC
So lookout for my unboxing video soon and as I am giving this unit away I will not be using it so if there are any specific question you want answered about the laptop leave a comment and I will have a look
